Privacy Policy

Effective September 2026

Winnaby builds a voice device for people who don't use screens. Many of our users are older adults, and their families are trusting us with a device that sits in a private home. We take that seriously, and this policy is written to be understood rather than to protect us.

Information we collect

If you join our waitlist: we collect the email address you provide. Nothing else. No name, no phone number, no advertising identifiers, no third-party tracking.

If you use a Winnaby device: the device listens for its wake word locally, on the device itself. No audio leaves the home until the wake word is detected or the device is activated by touch. Once a conversation begins, the illuminated ring indicates that the device is active, and the audio from that conversation is transmitted to our service providers to be transcribed and answered. A short follow-up window remains open after each reply so a follow-up question does not require the wake word again. When the ring turns off, so does the microphone.

We retain a text record of conversations so the device can refer to earlier discussions. We do not retain the audio itself.

How we use it

Email addresses are used solely to send product announcements and launch information. Conversation records are used solely to operate the device and improve its responses.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use conversations for advertising or profiling, and we do not permit our service providers to use them to train their own models where that option is available to us.

Service providers

We rely on third-party providers for speech recognition, language processing, speech synthesis, cellular connectivity, web hosting, and payment processing. These providers process data on our behalf under contract and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. A current list of providers is available on request.

Retention and deletion

Conversation records are retained for 90 days unless deletion is requested sooner. Waitlist email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or request removal. When a device is returned or an account is closed, associated data is deleted.

Your choices

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information at any time by writing to hello@winnaby.com. We will confirm when a request has been completed. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state or national privacy law, and we honor those requests regardless of jurisdiction.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to conversation records is restricted to personnel who require it to operate or support the service. We maintain safeguards consistent with the New York SHIELD Act and comparable standards.

Children

Winnaby is not designed for or directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects how we handle your information, we will post the updated version here and notify device owners by email before it takes effect.
